Flight is an interactive lighting project for the Light to Night 2022 festival that uses Bluetooth proximity sensing to create a data-driven light show. The installation detects visitor density and movement, translating digital signals into a synchronized display of color and motion across the Padang.
Flight came at an interesting moment - it was one of the first major public installations after COVID restrictions had lifted, so there was a real energy around getting it right. The structure stretched 25 metres in length, and I needed a way to show the National Gallery Singapore team exactly how the lights were going to look before anything was physically set up. On top of that, I had to make sure the Bluetooth proximity integration would actually hold up across the full scale of the space - something that's hard to verify without being able to test it in the real environment.
